On the 16th of March, 2008, we at Kitasato University organized the International Symposium on the Issue of Provision of Genetic Testing. This event was a part of the research project (project leader: Associate Professor Fumio Takada) on the socio ethical issues caused by de-medicalization and marketization of genetic testing we have been conducted at the department of medical genetics in the graduate school of medical sciences in Kitasato University commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology accordingly to the policy of the Council for Science and Technology Policy.

Through our research project, we have been communicating with international researchers and policymakers who have been taking the leading role in the effort to better the quality of genetic testing. The event was the great opportunity for these international experts to gather together and exchange their information and experience on the issues such as information provided to the users of genetic test, quality of genetic counseling, quality of laboratory analysis, based on their works in each region and country.
